Material, depth and mounting work together. These are the practical decisions to settle before the sign goes into production.
Which material and finish suits the design?
Acrylic offers a clean cut edge and a broad choice of colours. Aluminium is lighter than many other metals, while stainless steel, brass and copper create a different surface finish. Painted lettering can be matched to a nominated brand colour, subject to an approved sample where needed.
Letter height, stroke width and thickness need to work together. Send the actual logo or font so we can check fine details before confirming the specification.
How will the letters attach to the surface?
Letters may use an appropriate adhesive, backing tape, pins, spacers or a backing panel. The right fixing depends on letter weight, wall condition, exposure and the desired gap behind the sign. Tape is not suitable for every sign or surface.
For supply-only work, ask for the fixing information and a positioning template. Exterior, overhead and difficult-access installations need their fixing and access requirements assessed before manufacture.
What changes when the lettering is illuminated?
Front-lit letters illuminate the face; halo lighting casts light behind the letters onto the wall. Fabricated returns provide depth, while push-through acrylic uses a cut panel with letters illuminated from behind.
Lighting changes the fabrication, mounting gap, wiring and power-supply access. See fabricated 3D signs or backlit signs for these options. Electrical connections must be arranged with a suitably qualified installer.
What affects the quote and installation?
The main factors are the overall size, number and complexity of letters, material, finish, mounting method and installation access. Lighting, removal of existing signs and difficult wall conditions can add scope.
Provide a wide photo of the sign position and a close view of the surface. Landlord, building or council approvals may be needed; confirm responsibility and any conditions before production. Timing is confirmed after artwork, materials and installation scope are agreed.

Can 3D lettering be used outdoors?
Yes, where the material, finish and fixings suit the exposure and mounting surface. Outdoor or overhead work may need a site assessment before the specification is confirmed.
Can you work from our logo or brand font?
Yes. Send vector artwork where available, together with the overall size and brand colours. Fine strokes, small details and fixing positions need to be checked against the chosen material and thickness.
Can we install the letters ourselves?
Supply-only lettering may be suitable where the surface and fixing requirements are straightforward. Ask for a positioning template and fixing guidance. Large, heavy, illuminated or difficult-access signs need suitable installation expertise.
Are cut-out letters the same as fabricated 3D signs?
Cut-out letters are made from sheet material. Fabricated letters have built-up sides for greater depth and may include lighting. Both look dimensional, but the manufacturing and mounting requirements differ.
