Sydney project · Fleet branding

The most photographed fleet on Australian roads.

In 2018, Google refreshed its Australian Street View fleet — and Platinum Signs put the livery on the road. Eight vehicles were wrapped in the printed sky-and-mountains design, finished as one identical set, and fitted around the camera rigs that make these cars instantly recognisable in every suburb they map.

The project in detail

Eight photographs follow the fleet from the wrap line to the finished vehicles photographed around Sydney with their camera rigs mounted.

The landmark photography shows the delivered fleet in service — the same vehicles that went on to map streets across Australia.

Project at a glance

One design, eight vehicles, zero visible variation.

Fleet branding lives or dies on consistency. Eight vehicles had to leave the workshop looking like one car photographed eight times — panel joins, colour and placement identical across the set.

A printed livery, not a colour

The Street View design is a full printed artwork — sky, clouds and mountains flowing across bonnet, doors and tailgate — reproduced identically on every vehicle.

Built around the rig

Each car carries a roof-mounted Street View camera rig, so the wrap was fitted to work with the mounting points rather than fight them.

A production-line rollout

The vehicles moved through the workshop as a staged line, so the fleet could be wrapped, checked and released as a single consistent set.

How it came together

From artwork to eight identical vehicles.

A fleet program is a manufacturing exercise as much as an installation. The design was engineered for the vehicle's panels once, then repeated with production discipline across the set.

Read the four delivery stages
  1. 1

    Engineer the artwork

The supplied livery was mapped to the vehicle's actual panels — bonnet, mirrors, arches and tailgate — so the design flows unbroken around the body.

  2. 2

    Print the set together

Panels for the fleet were printed as one colour-managed run, the only reliable way to keep eight vehicles visually identical.

  3. 3

    Wrap as a production line

Vehicles were staged through the workshop in sequence, with each wrap fitted, trimmed and detailed before the next car moved up.

  4. 4

    Release as one fleet

The finished vehicles were checked side by side, then handed over ready for their camera rigs and the road.

Project anatomy

What a fleet livery has to survive.

Street View cars work harder than most fleets — every daylight hour on the road, in every weather, while being photographed constantly. The build is chosen for exactly that life.

Material decision

Why a printed wrap instead of cut vinyl graphics?

Cut vinyl suits logos and lettering on a factory paint colour. The Street View livery is a photographic artwork covering the whole body — only a printed wrap can carry a sky full of clouds across eight vehicles and keep every one identical. It also protects the paint underneath, which matters for a leased or resold fleet.

Fleet wraps are removable — when a campaign or livery changes, the fleet returns to base colour without repainting.

Budgeting a fleet program

What drives the cost of fleet branding.

Fleet programs are priced per vehicle with the engineering shared across the set. The main drivers are:

  • Fleet size — setup and artwork engineering amortise across more vehicles
  • Coverage: full wrap versus partial wrap or printed panels
  • Panel complexity of the vehicle model
  • Hardware the wrap must be fitted around
  • Scheduling — staged rollouts versus all vehicles at once

Send your vehicle list and artwork for a program-specific quote — model and coverage change per-vehicle scope materially.

Sydney proof · Fleet capability

A global brand's fleet, delivered locally.

This program was delivered in Sydney in 2018 for Google's Australian Street View fleet — eight vehicles wrapped as one consistent set and photographed everywhere from the Opera House to the suburbs they map. Platinum Signs delivers fleet branding programs like this for commercial fleets, trucks and work vehicles Australia-wide.

  • Livery engineered once, repeated with discipline
  • Colour-managed printing across the whole set
  • Staged rollout that keeps the fleet working

Prepare a useful brief

What to send for a fleet branding program.

Fleet programs are scoped from the vehicles and the artwork — both matter before any pricing.

Read the four-point quoting checklist
  1. 1

    The vehicle list

Makes, models and years — panel shapes drive the wrap engineering, so exact models matter.

  2. 2

    Your artwork or brand kit

Print-ready livery files, or the brand assets a livery should be designed from.

  3. 3

    Coverage level

Full wrap, partial wrap or printed panels per vehicle — and whether roofs are included.

  4. 4

    Scheduling constraints

How many vehicles can be off the road at once, and any hardware fitted to them.
