Make the equipment location clear

Check how people approach the hose reel from corridors, doors and nearby work areas. Choose a visible position associated with the actual reel or its enclosure, so the sign leads people to the right equipment. Keep shelving, stored goods and opened doors from obscuring the face. A sign without an arrow suits direct identification; a location around a corner may need separately specified directional signage.

Choose a face for the fixing position

Use the compact vinyl label on a clean, dry, smooth backing, such as a suitable prepared panel or cabinet surface. Polypropylene is a lightweight rigid option for a wall or sign holder. Colorbond gives you a coated steel face for mechanical fixing. Corflute provides a lightweight fluted panel where a supported temporary sign is appropriate. Check that the support and fixing method suit the chosen material.

Keep access and operating information visible

Plan the sign position without covering cabinet handles, inspection records or the hose reel’s operating instructions. Mount it securely so it cannot swing across the equipment or obstruct access. If attaching to an enclosure, check the enclosure supplier’s fixing instructions before drilling or using adhesive. Particular hole patterns, brackets and holders can be discussed with our team before ordering.

Compare the four portrait formats

The 180 × 240 mm adhesive face is the smallest format. Rigid options are 225 × 300 mm, 300 × 450 mm and 400 × 600 mm. Measure the available space and check the view from the normal approach, taking lighting, surrounding notices and obstructions into account. A larger face can be more noticeable across an open area, but these dimensions do not establish a guaranteed reading distance or a prescribed mounting height.

Identify the equipment within your fire arrangements

The sign helps people locate the hose reel. Tasmania Fire Service includes safe hose-reel use, fire classes and risk assessment in its practical firefighting-equipment training. Keep the equipment’s operating instructions available and follow the workplace’s emergency procedures and training arrangements. For required sign positions or equipment installation, refer to the building’s fire-safety documentation and the responsible fire-protection professional.

Inspect and replace the identification face

Check the sign after shelving, partitions or equipment locations change. Replace a face that has faded, become obscured, cracked or detached. Keep the sign aligned with the hose reel it identifies and remove obsolete location information when equipment is relocated. Save product code PS-FIR018 together with your selected size and material for matching replacement orders.

Check the sign format before ordering

Before ordering

  • Match the hose-reel symbol and wording to the equipment being identified.
  • Check visibility from the actual approach and whether a direction arrow is needed.
  • Measure the backing or mounting space and choose the correct face.
  • Keep handles, access and operating instructions unobstructed.
  • Review quantity, delivery destination and freight before payment.
