Where to mount a No Fishing sign
Fix it at the point where a person would actually cast: the end of a jetty, the middle of a bridge, the top of a boat ramp, the fence around a water-supply reservoir or the rail of a marina finger. Face the sign towards the approach path so it is seen before the rod comes out, and repeat it at every entry to a long bank rather than relying on one sign at the car park.
Picking the size and material
Choose 200 x 200 mm for gates, doors and close-range rails, 300 x 300 mm for fences, posts and bridge rails, and 600 x 600 mm where the sign must be read from the water or across a ramp. Colorbond and aluminium handle weather and salt spray; polypropylene and vinyl are for sheltered or smooth surfaces.
Reading the symbol
The fish and hook inside a red circle with a diagonal bar use the prohibition layout described in AS 1319, the standard that reserves that red ring and bar for actions that are not permitted. Because the panel carries no text, add a separate written sign where a local by-law, lease condition or fisheries notice must be quoted.
Check the sign format before ordering
The layout follows the AS 1319 prohibition convention of a red circular band and diagonal bar over a black pictogram on white. Platinum Signs prints to that layout and makes no compliance claim for any particular waterway, lease or site.

Frequently asked questions
Is there any text on the sign?
No. It shows only the fish and hook inside the red prohibition ring. If a by-law, permit number or fine amount has to appear, order a separate text sign to sit beside it.
Which size works on a bridge or jetty rail?
The 300 x 300 mm panel is the usual fit for a rail, parapet or post. Use 600 x 600 mm if the sign must be read from a boat or from the opposite bank.
Will it survive salt water and sun?
Yes on the right material. Aluminium at 300 x 300 mm or 600 x 600 mm does not rust on wharves and breakwaters, and colorbond steel at 200 x 200 mm handles open-air jetties and dam banks.
Can I stick it to a glass balustrade or a boat?
Order it on self-adhesive vinyl. Clean and dry the surface, then apply the decal from one edge. Add lamination if it will be hosed or scrubbed.
Does it also ban swimming or boating?
No. It prohibits fishing only. Use the separate No Swimming or No Boating signs where those activities are also restricted.
