MDF Printing — UV Direct Printed Panels, Cut In-House
Our MDF printing service puts full-colour graphics straight onto raw MDF board with UV direct printing — no vinyl application, no film lamination. The UV-cured ink bonds directly into the board's smooth surface, so the finish is matte, tactile, and reads as part of the panel rather than a layer on top of it. Unprinted areas show the warm, natural tan of the board — a look designers deliberately build into retail, exhibition, and hospitality work.
Every panel is printed and cut in-house. Choose a standard rectangle or a custom cut shape — the laser leaves a smooth, sealed edge with a subtly darkened tone that suits the natural board beautifully. Panels run from 100mm x 100mm up to a full 2400mm x 1200mm sheet, in three stocked thicknesses: 3mm, 9mm, and 12mm.

Two Ways We Cut MDF — Laser or Router
We run two cutting technologies in-house, on every thickness we offer, and they give two different edges. Neither is a compromise — pick the one that suits the piece.
CO₂ Laser
CNC Router
Edge
Sealed, caramelised line — a deliberate look, not a defect
Clean, uncharred timber — pale and crisp
Detail
Very fine kerf — holds tight internal corners
Excellent on larger shapes and thicker board
Nesting
Parts nest closer — less waste on intricate cuts
Needs a little more clearance between parts
Pick it when
Lettering, fine detail, intricate contours
You want the board to read light and clean
Both leave a sharp, finished edge. If you have a preference, say so with your artwork — otherwise we'll pick whichever suits the shape you've sent.
MDF Cut to Size
Every panel is MDF cut to size as part of your order — choose any rectangle from 100mm x 100mm up to a full 2400 x 1200mm sheet, or supply a vector outline and we'll cut the shape exactly on the CO₂ laser or CNC router. Cutting is included in the price above; a custom contour adds a per-metre charge based on the shape and board thickness. Need unprinted cut-to-size MDF blanks? Contact us and we'll quote the cutting on its own.
Where Printed MDF Works Best
Printed MDF is the workhorse of interior display: retail POS and product displays, exhibition and event panels, menu and specials boards, gallery and photographic prints, reception features, and wayfinding in warm, natural-toned fitouts. It's the most economical timber substrate we print, with the smoothest surface — artwork with flat colour, photography, or fine text reproduces cleanly without grain interference.

MDF printing is full-colour UV direct printing straight onto raw MDF (medium-density fibreboard) panels. The UV-cured ink bonds directly to the smooth board surface — no vinyl, no film — so the warm, natural tone of the timber board shows through unprinted areas of your design. MDF's fine, even surface takes print beautifully, making it the smoothest and most economical timber substrate for printed panels.
No. Every MDF panel is UV direct printed — the ink is cured straight into the board surface by our UV flatbed press. There is no vinyl application and no film lamination on this product at all. The result is a matte, tactile finish that feels like part of the board rather than a layer sitting on top of it.
Our stocked standards are 3mm, 9mm, and 12mm — all cut from full 2400 x 1200mm sheets. 3mm suits lightweight wall panels and short-term displays, 9mm is the all-rounder for most signage and display work, and 12mm gives a substantial, dimensional panel for feature and reception pieces. Need a custom thickness (6mm, 16mm, 18mm, 25mm or more)? Contact us with your project details and we'll quote it.
Yes. We cut MDF to size from full 2400 x 1200mm sheets on our CO₂ laser and CNC router — any rectangle from 100mm x 100mm up to a full sheet, or any custom shape from a vector file. Cut-to-size blanks (no artwork) are quoted per job rather than through the calculator above, since there's no printing involved: email info@platinumsigns.com.au with your sizes, thickness and quantity and we'll price it. If you want your panels printed as well, use the calculator — printing and cutting are priced together.
Our maximum single panel is 2400mm x 1200mm — a full MDF sheet. Minimum size is 100mm x 100mm. For installations larger than a single sheet, panels can be produced in sections and joined on-site — contact us for multi-panel layouts.
Raw MDF is an interior product — it's moisture-sensitive, so we recommend it for indoor and fully sheltered applications only. If your project needs an exterior-grade or wet-area finish, ask us about 2-pac coated MDF panels (see below), or consider our ACM and aluminium signs which are built for outdoor life.
2-pac is an automotive-grade sprayed coating (clear or colour) that seals and finishes MDF panels to a premium, durable standard. It's not offered through the online calculator — we reserve it mostly for larger, typically architectural projects, and pricing depends on the details involved. If that's what your project needs, contact us at info@platinumsigns.com.au with your specifications and we'll discuss the best approach.
Both, on every thickness we offer, and the difference is worth knowing. The CO₂ laser cuts a very fine kerf, so it holds tight internal corners and fine detail, and it nests parts closer together on the sheet — less waste on intricate shapes. It leaves a sealed, caramelised edge: a subtly darkened line around the cut. That is not a defect. Plenty of designers ask for it deliberately — it's the classic printed-timber look, and it seals the edge as it goes. The CNC router leaves a clean, uncoloured timber edge with no charring, which reads pale and crisp, and it's the better choice on larger shapes or where the board should stay light. Both give a sharp, finished edge. Tell us which you'd prefer and we'll cut accordingly; otherwise we choose whichever suits your shape.
Yes. MDF panels can be UV printed on one or both sides — select single or double sided in the calculator. Double-sided printing adds 50% to the print price and suits hanging displays, window-facing panels, and freestanding pieces viewed from both sides.
UV inks are translucent, so printed straight onto raw board your colours take on the warm MDF tone underneath — a natural, muted look that suits rustic and organic designs. Selecting the white ink base prints a white underlay beneath your artwork first, so colours come out vivid and true — like printing on a white surface. White ink adds 20% to the print price. Open the White Ink Base menu in the calculator to see real photos of both looks side by side.
Yes — choose Custom Contour Cut in the calculator and we'll cut your panel to the outline of your design: circles, logos, lettering outlines, product silhouettes, anything with a clean vector path. We cut on a CO₂ laser (smooth, sealed edge with a subtly darkened caramel tone — a signature look on MDF that many designers use as a deliberate feature) or a CNC router (clean, uncharred edge). Both run on every thickness we offer.
Straight-cut panels have a clean, raw MDF edge in the board's natural tan colour. Laser-cut contour shapes have a smooth, slightly darker sealed edge from the cutting process. Both read as intentional, natural finishes — if you need painted or sealed edges for an architectural finish, ask about our 2-pac coating service.
We accept PDF, AI, EPS, SVG, PSD, TIFF, and high-resolution JPEG/PNG files. For best results, supply vector artwork at actual size with 10mm bleed. Remember that unprinted areas show the natural MDF tone — design with the board colour in mind, or include a printed white/colour background if you need full coverage. We check supplied files for production suitability and send a proof before printing; creative changes are not included with print-ready artwork.
Choose 'I need help preparing artwork' and upload whatever you have after ordering — such as your logo, final wording, images, sketches or references. We will assess what is required first. No design fee is added by the calculator. If design work is needed, we will confirm the cost with you before we begin. Branding, multiple concepts, wayfinding and coordinated signage systems are handled as managed signage projects.
Standard production is 5 business days from artwork approval to dispatch. A Fast Turnaround option (3 business days) is available in the calculator for urgent jobs. Delivery time is additional on top of production.
Yes. Sydney metro via courier (often next-day after dispatch), interstate via freight carrier with tracking. Shipping is calculated at checkout based on panel size and your postcode. You can also pick up from our workshop free of charge.
Yes for Sydney metro at $120/hr per installer (2-installer minimum for panels above 1200mm or above-head height, 3-hour call-out minimum). Printed MDF is light and easy to self-install — pre-drilled mounting holes are supplied at no cost, and adhesive mounting works well on smooth interior walls.
Yes. Trade accounts are open to interior designers, exhibition and event builders, shopfitters, signage resellers, and fitout companies. Email info@platinumsigns.com.au with your ABN and expected volume for tiered pricing and dedicated support.

Architectural projects
Need a painted or exterior-grade finish? Ask about 2-pac coating
For projects that need a sealed, sprayed, automotive-grade finish — clear over the print or full colour — we offer 2-pac coated MDF panels. It's a project-quoted service we reserve mostly for larger, typically architectural work: feature walls, joinery-integrated panels and premium fitouts. It isn't part of the online calculator — the right build-up depends on the details involved, so reach out and we'll discuss your project.
